I am a freelance journalist specializing in free and open source software. I have been a contributing editor at Linux.com and Maximum Linux, and have submitted work to such sites as Datamation, Linux Journal, LinuxPlanet, The Linux Developer Network, and LWN. My article "11 Tips for Moving to OpenOffice.org" was the cover story for the March 2004 Linux Journal. In the past, my stories have been picked up by Slashdot an average of about 6 times per year.
In the past, I have designed and delivered elearning courses. I have worked with Intel, the Learning and Instructional Design Center at Simon Fraser University, Telestrainglobal, and the INFOSERV Institute of Technology in Jamaica.
In addition, I have been a university English instructor, a technical writer, a product manager, a director of marketing and communications, a developmental editor, and a consultant in communications, marketing, and design. I am still available for small bits of work in these fields if the right opportunity comes along.
When dealing with technological issues, I believe that the first priority is a hands-on comprehension of the technology. One of my main specialties is explaining technical and non-technical people to each other.
