David Ronnie’s Summary

David “Flatcat” Ronnie is a digital media artist, designer, and entrepreneur currently residing in Vancouver. His current practice focuses on exploring the intersection between the digital and physical worlds and how they can influence and shape each other.

David has worked on internet-based projects for over five years professionally and another five years previous to that as a hobbyist. The multitude of projects he’s worked on over that decade has provided David a deep knowledge in a broad range of technologies, languages, and design theory.

While this list may be impressive on it’s own, David also matches this technical knowledge with a strong understanding of the needs and challenges facing businesses in this chaotic new medium we call the “web”.

David Ronnie’s Experience

  • Metaphysical Composer

    Flatcat Inc.

    (Design industry)

    September 2005Present (4 years 4 months)

Flatcat Inc. is the name of my freelance studio. As is typical with freelancing, I had a variety of responsibilities that included client/project management, research, sub-contracting, brand design, print strategy and creative, web site design and development, sub-contractor management as well as the ever-important sales and networking components. While originally falling into freelancing more by accident that decision, Flatcat Inc. has proven to be one of the biggest forces in my life for exponential leaps in creativity, self-esteem, passion, drive, commitment, and overall technical ability development.

  • Teacher

Guru Digital Arts College/Northern Alberta Institute of Technology

    (Professional Training & Coaching industry)

    July 2006March 2007 (9 months)

In the summer of 2006 I was approached by Guru Digital Arts College to teach a kids course in Flash game development. From there I branched off into teaching Actionscript 2.0 at Guru for their 2006 Spring Intake. In addition, N.A.I.T. contracts Guru for much of their adult learning teachers and I was consequently contracted to teach at N.A.I.T. everything from Flash Basic through to Flash Actionscript 2.0. These nine months, while brief, were pivotal to my growth as a Flash developer as well as the excellent problem solving and research capabilities I now possess.

  • Interactive Designer

    RAMP Interactive

(Privately Held; 1-10 employees; Internet industry)

    October 2003June 2005 (1 year 9 months)

RAMP Interactive is an Edmonton-based new media company focused on professional and amateur sport whose client list entailed everything from small community sport association portals through to professional organizations like the Edmonton Oilers. I was hired on as an Interactive Designer in the fall of 2003 at RAMP where my responsibilities included design and conceptual development of numerous associations, teams, players, and companies that included such re-knowned sports names as Michael Owen, Ryan Smyth, and Hayley Wickenheiser. In addition, my responsibilities also bled over into development of html and css templates for the RAMP CMS and coding of various Flash web sites and widgets.
