Marc Poulin (marc@tango.qc.ca)’s Summary

I specialize in web consulting since 1996 (Internet, Intranet and Extranet). I work on portals but also on e-comerce applications. My main involvment is as business analyst, information architect and usability specialist.

The distinguishing elements that I bring to web projects are my knowledge of the business world (McGill MBA) along with a deep knowledge of web technologies. My aim is to develop web sites that allow visitors to complete their tasks all the while maximizing profit for the web site owners.

    For SOSgarde.ca, a new e-commerce site, information architecture, business analysis and wireframe prototyping.

    For a professional association, web site health check and coaching on the use of social networks on the web.

    For Agro-Paix Québec-Philippines, a non-profit international organisation, development of a Facebook page to promote their activities and improve communication amongst members.

    For the STM (Montreal metro), web architect for the redesign of their web site.

    For Distributel, in collaboration with advertising agency Über communications, development of a functional wireframe to test the information architecture and navigation during the redesign of their web site.

    For the city of Montreal, elaboration of their 5 year plan for their Internet and Intranet web portals.

    As web architect, I took part in numerous B2B, B2E and B2C projects. My role was to oversee the performance, security and integration issues of web applications for the benefit of the branches. Many of those projects had extremely high requirements in terms of robustness and capacity (many hundreds of requests per second).

    Major projects:
    - Implementation of a MOSS 2007 (SharePoint) infrastructure for the branch Intranet;
    - Implementation of a very large proxy infrastructure (1800 servers) using Microsoft ISA 2004 to drastically reduce the response time of web applications;
    - Migration of the main transactional web platform from WebLogic 5.1 to 8.1.

    In addition to projects, I was responsible for the web technology vision and standards and I took part in many web project revision boards.

    Major projects:
    - Ericsson Canada: as the Intranet architect, management of their Intranet meta site (25 departmental sites, 200,000+ pages and 12,000 visitors/month). I also developed a web site redesign methodology based on DMR P+ and RUP. Participation in the redesign of multiple Intranet sites;

    - Bissell: development of functional specifications for the remake of their electronic commerce web site. The site comprises: product catalog, shopping cart, tax (USA) and shipping calculations, online credit card payment, personalization, order processing and tracking, ad banners, promotions and affiliate program.

    - Business Development Bank of Canada: Definition of a 3-tiers technology architecture to support the development of their critical loan application.

    - Air Canada: Implemented Internet access and their first Intranet portal.

    During my many assignments, I acted as project manager, architecture specialist, senior consultant, analyst and programmer. During these projects, I was called upon to work in various technical environments such as: IBM mainframe, IBM PC (Novell and Banyan), Macintosh, VAX, Data General, MAI Basic Four, AT&T 3B2 and Wang. In addition to my development projects, I was at times given management responsibilities within DMR where I managed consultant placement and careers.
