Experienced Senior Executive in Academic and Non Profit Organisations
Mauritius
My expertise in research, administration, and teaching is based on over two decades of successful experience in the higher education systems of North America, Europe, Pacific and the Middle East.
I have edited numerous (>100) peer reviewed books, papers, encyclopedia entries and articles in the areas of human computer interaction, psychology and human factors.
My research interests have focused on understanding the human and social impact of information and communications technology (ICT). I have been fortunate enough to have been principal scientist on a number of externally funded projects (>3 million Euros in personal grants) and to have led successful fund raising initiatives for academic and charitable organisations.
My scientific work includes a number of original contributions: The first empirical evaluations and explanations of why direct manipulation and graphical user interfaces are superior in usability terms; Some of the first explanations of gender differences and attitudes in ICT use; Revealing the role of personality types in computer based behavior and finally, the influence of early parental encouragement in later technology competence and attitudes.

March 2007 — January 2010 (2 years 11 months)
Based in Edmonton, Alberta at one of the largest post secondary institutions in North America (140,000 enrollments a year) I had day to day responsibility for a school/faculty with departments covering a wide range of skills such as TV, Radio, Photography, Graphic Comms, Digital Media and Information Technology. In programs ranging from certificates through to degrees. The school/faculty had fully operational Television and Radio studios which broadcast regular news and sports programing on national public access networks.
My profit and loss responsibility included an annual operating budget of over 14 million Canadian dollars a year and a separate capital equipment budget.
My school/faculty also delivered programs on a "for profit basis" at several locations in China in collaboration with the Beijing Institute of Technology and the Harbin Institute of Technology. We also developed a collaboration for a remote campus for delivery of programs in Vietnam.
I was also Vice Chair for the charity "Computers for Schools" which refurbished over 100,000 computers and provided them to local schools and NGOs free of charge. And Chair of the Canadian National Deans of IT group and I also sat on the board for the Canadian National Federal Sector Council for Information and Communications Technology.
