John grew up in Georgetown, Ontario and has called Guelph his home for the last 11 years, enjoying the progressive mind-set the town has to offer. He has been an entrepreneur and vegan for 22 years and a Yoshinkan Aikido Sensei for 14 years. He does not watch television and enjoys rock climbing, dancing, meditation, and playing the guitar.
John began professionally designing and developing database applications out of high school, speaking at computer user groups to win contracts. In 1995, when many companies considered the web to be just a fad, John fulfilled his first web vision, a web site Content Management System with user roles, database-driven structured content regions, and editable HTML regions. It predated the next available one by 5 years. This technology helped John win many web site development contracts and necessitated his forming the first PHP development and hosting company, which he ran for 12 years. Clients included the Canadian Wind Energy Association and The Green Party of Canada.
In 2004 John became obsessed with learning the psychology and techniques of marketing, and then put his acquired skills to the test in July 2006 with the launch of link redirection and tracking software, GoTryTHIS 1. which did over $700,000 in sales and positioned John as a "guru" and speaker within the Internet marketing community, something John had mixed feelings about.
John is currently working on GoTryTHIS 2, which represents a huge investment in new technology, will tackle new and much bigger markets, and is in beta with over 300 paying subscribers.
John is available for short-term and part-time consulting to aid with overall strategy, market differentiation, identifying barriers to entry and market opportunities, product design, feature planning, and marketing strategy. Also contact John for his recommendation on outsourced programmers to hire.

After creating the first online content management system for web sites, this six person team enjoyed a very high success rate, winning web site contracts, many requiring the development of new technology. For years, there were no web hosts capable of hosting these sites, necessitating Web Sorcery becoming the first PHP-enabled hosting company.

Reality Bytes was the first adopter of what was to become the most popular scripting language on the web, PHP, and greatly influenced its continued development. For the Olde Hide House, we created one of the first online shopping carts, integrated into their internal inventory system. They stayed with John for 10 years. As well, we designed a system for showcasing houses online, which was pitched directly to bank presidents by ex finance minister, Garth Turner. This was deemed to be years before its time and was shelved when the partners went their separate ways.
