    Orginally hired to support a legacy ASP-based application that manages patient care and statistics, I was voluteered to migrate a Linux/Apache/MySQL/PHP (LAMP) based legacy system for TruVision.com, a subsidury of TLC Vision, from an external server to our internal system, building the processes and servers to support a development, stage, and production model. I was able to correct the legacy PHP code, and enhance security, functionality, and adapt new creditcard clearing WebServices and interfaces to CapitalOne and other internal systems. I able to involvemyself in a Blackberry project using Flowfinity and work with Adobe ColdFusion. I did extensive work with Dynamic HTML using JavaScript, CSS, and the DOM in a cross-browser environment. While this was a team effort I was recognised as a valuable resource and primary source for CSS work and scripting solutions.

    Hired by the same manager who I worked for at Molson, I began work as a help desk agent, quickly moving to the Implementation Services team. Evaluating the processes used to deploy hardware to TCI staff, I was able to improve delivery times and reduce errors through automation and processes. The documented processes were instrumental in training new staff and mentoring student-filled positions. The Security Administrator, a member of the team, was due to retire so she and I worked together to document her role and responsibilities for Lotus Notes, Windows Networking, and OS/390. We were able to document all of the processes, creating automation where possible to ensure success and consistency. I took over Security Administration, then trained a second to ensure coverage based on these processes and documentation.

    While the technical aspect of this time frame included some cool opportunities in the production of web sites for small business, I was also in a "survival job" as a "Roadside Assistance Professional."

    A Roadside Assistance Professional is, effectively, a tow-truck operator or light-service operator. I worked for Abrams Towing in Mississauga and performed vehicle transfers, lockout assistance, and, yes, tire changes. I was not a "Vulture," I was a contracted tow operator service clubs like CAA, PDG (Canadian Tire), private garages, reputable body shops, and dealerships. The whole time I was working in towing, I was nagged by the lack of technology in place.

    It was an experience and I mention it here as a testament to my adaptability I even worked dispatch for a while when I was out of a truck. If it were more lucrative, I'd go back.

    I was hired into team of three developers working on a multi-lingual web site that focused on pet health (mypetstop.com) and my manager and I soon foundourselves alone in the efforts as the original team members left the organisation. We redesigned the site and built our ASP-based solution using a Microsoft SQL back-end. This is one of the first sites I was able to work with CSS and Dynamic HTML using JavaScript. The system used web-based data-entry tools so the regional bodies of the client could enter data. All told I works on projects for Canadian Tire, TD Bank, SunLife, and Mars. Prior to departure I was also able to work on some process workflows that served E-TRADE, Sunoco,and Shell with CRM efforts with great success.
