I earned my PhD in bioprocess engineering from the national institute for scientific research (INRS, Quebec, Canada). After graduating, NSERC awarded me a post-doctoral fellowship at the Biotechnology Research Institute (BRI-NRC, Montreal, Canada). One major achievement of my research is the development of an innovative process for the production of biopolymer (PHA) using maple sap as feedstock. I have published more than 20 peer-reviewed papers, obtained 1 patent and made over 20 contributions to national and international conferences. I'm also, a regular reviewer for various granting agencies and journals and I'm a member of CTAC Packaging committee (Conseil de la Transformation Agroalimentaire et des Produits de Consommation) and MDEIE bioplastic committee (Ministère du Développement économique, de l'Innovation et de l'Exportation). Since July 2008, I host a personnel blog: http://pakbec.blogspot.com/; A techno-watch on bioplastics and smart packaging (active, intelligent and sustainable packaging). I have given several interviews in different media as a specialist in bioplastic and smart packaging.
Sustainable, Active and Intelligent Packaging; Printed intelligence, Bioplastics, Agro-Environmental/Biotechnology; Control and optimization of fermentation processes ; Bioprocess engineering and Scale-up; Bioconversion of by-products into high value added products (bioplastics, biopestcides, enzymes…); Downstream processes; Wastewater treatment; Soil bioremediation; Environmental impact assessment; Geosynthetics; Water desalination by reverse osmosis; Techno-Watch and Strategic Alert.
