Professor at UQAM, Open Scholar and Computer Science Researcher

I'm interested in Multidimensional Databases (OLAP), Time Series and Collaborative Filtering. I want to help people collaboratively understand the data around them. I want to contribute to faster and more convenient data warehousing. Ultimately, I want to build tools to make people smarter.
More recently, I have focused my research around the theoretical analysis of heuristics favored by software developers. I believe there is a gap between theory and the experience of practitioners.
I'm also an Open Scholar. That is, I share my research results, my thoughts and my processes openly with the world. While I live for knowledge, I also believe knowledge wants to be free.

(Educational Institution; Higher Education industry)
May 2004 — Present (5 years 8 months)
I am a full professor (promoted in 2009). I currently supervise three Ph.D. students. I teach "Information Management with XML" (INF 6450), "a Computer Science perspective in Data Warehousing" (INF 9004), and "Information Retrieval and Filtering" (INF 6460 and INF 6104). I hold an NSERC discovery grant.

September 2002 — Present (7 years 4 months)
I am an adjunct professor at the Computer Science and Applied Statistics Department. I have supervised several graduate students and gotten several grants through the University of New Brunswick.
(Government Agency; 5001-10,000 employees; Research industry)
July 2002 — May 2004 (1 year 11 months)
This was a full time research position (government laboratory). I was a member of the Internet Logic group, I ran the e-Health research group, I supervised several students.
(Educational Institution; Higher Education industry)
July 2001 — May 2002 (11 months)
I worked on high resolution subdivision schemes and taught numerical analysis to fourth year students.
(Research industry)
September 1999 — May 2001 (1 year 9 months)
Among other things, I designed a wavelet-based compression format for radiology images (Waaves). I also worked within the geophysical industry on signal processing. (See TV interview in French at http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4750490412418990197 )
(Research industry)
May 1998 — September 1999 (1 year 5 months)
I did wavelet-based signal processing (ECG and EEG).
Ph.D. , Engineering Mathematics , 1995 — 1998
I worked on the link between wavelets and subdivision schemes.
M.Sc. , Mathematics , 1994 — 1995
