Owner / Sales and Marketing Director at Strokes of Genius Painting
Ottawa, Canada Area
Everything comes full circle, as they say.
I began my business journey with The Summer Management Program 7 years ago, where I learned the ropes running my own painting company. I then parlayed that experience into an interesting sales-consulting role with a new project associated with TSMP called New Image Painting: We consulted painting contractors across Canada who purchased licenseeships of Home Depot Installations for Painting. After leaving New Image, I spent time in a couple other sales roles with Rogers, Dell and local publishing company The Construction News Group, doing well overall in these capacities, but always itching to do return to a more entrepreneurial role.
Earlier this year, I had finally decided to take the plunge and launch a sales and marketing consultancy primarily targeting the trades and home services (MarkeTrades.) I had landed an initial sales contract with a local residential water filtration company and was working on that project in August when I was approached by a painter who once worked for me and who had since been running his own enterprise for over 6 years. He invited me to partner and help him re-brand and grow his business... but not as a consultant, as a co-owner. I agreed and out of this new partnership, Strokes of Genius Painting was born. Business has been booming under the new name and I can say that I truly enjoy my work for the first time in a long time!
At about the same time, Construction News Group owner Mark Buckshon pitched the idea of doing advertising sales and some editorial for his Ottawa papers while working on ramping up Strokes of Genius. I was happy for the opportunity and am currently balancing both roles.
